Image Info On June 8, 1935, authorities found Herbert L. Morrill, 66, mutilated and buried in his West Falmouth cellar after his 10-year-old son led them to the grave. His wife, Mary, 53, was charged with murder and admitted striking him with a club, though an autopsy revealed far more severe injuries. She pled self-defense, citing years of abuse and deprivation, but the jury rejected her claim, sentencing her to life in prison.
