Image Info William Webb Hannaford (1836-1915) was a farmer in Cape Elizabeth, son of George and Statira Hannaford. In 1866, he worked as a fruit trader on Franklin Street in Portland, near where it intersected with Fore Street. He married Hannah P. Dyer on June 3rd, 1868, and had three children. In 1903, William was elected a road commissioner in Cape Elizabeth. William died on January 16th, 1914.

His nephews Arthur, Howard, and Edward Hannaford founded Hannaford Brothers Company in 1902, now the largest supermarket chain in Maine.
