Tom Mix made a surprise visit to Bayside Park in Portland on June 11, 1937. The crowd of children present were in awe of the famous actor. Pictured with Mix is five-year-old Raymond Greene of Casco. Bayside Park was home to multiple Portland baseball teams but was demolished in the late 1960s.

Tom Mix was a silent western actor, appearing in 291 films between 1909 and 1935. He also worked for multiple Wild West Circus shows, the Sells-Floto Circus between 1929-31 and his own, The Tom Mix Wild West Show between 1935-38.
