Image Info The Gold House is commemorated in the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem "Clock on the Stair." Now known as the Plunkett mansion in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, it was the homestead of Fannie Appleton Longfellow's maternal grandfather. The poem was written in 1845.
