Image Info Aroostook County's Swedish Colony began in 1870 with the arrival of the first families. Within the first year, these Lutheran immigrants began organizing from a religious standpoint. Construction of a permanent church began in 1874. The church still stands on what is today Capitol Hill Road. The restrained interior reflects the limited means of local settlers but also the sparse style of the Evangelical Lutheran tradition.
