Image Info The U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) created this map to accompany a report to the State Department regarding the international boundary between the U.S. and Canada. A handwritten note on the map reads, "The duplicate of this chart was retained by Hon. W.F. King of Ottawa-Commissioner for Her Brittanic Majesty- who finally declared his unwillingness to sign. T.C.M." The USC&GS was the first scientific agency of the United States Government.
