Image Info

A view of the town of Belfast from Roger's Hill. Drawn by George H. Swift (1827-1893), the lithograph was published by Tappen & Bradford's Lithographers of Boston. The image, not drawn to scale, features the harbor, ships and the town of Belfast in the distance; with homesteads and several people standing in the foreground.

The vantage point was from Roger's Hill, on the east side of the Passagassawakeag River. This lithograph was featured in Bowdoin College Museum of Art's 2019-2020 exhibition, "Maine’s Lithographic Landscapes: Town & City Views, 1830–1870," as well as the subsequent publication of the same name by Earle G. Shettleworth, Jr. (2020.)
