According to local histories and recorded on the back of this photo was a legendary story about the seated soldier, who presumably shot a man in the arm. The other two soldiers were guarding him until the Commanding Officer arrested him.

These soldiers were part of the US Army's segregated 366th Infantry who guarded Maine's railroads and bridges during World War II.
