Image Info In the early hours of January 17, 1905, the flames got such a start in the old Music Hall building in Market Square that the firemen were powerless to fight the blaze.

In a short time the three-story wooden building that was built in the mid-1800s was left a mass of smoldering ashes.
A group of youngsters posed upon the ice-covered mass of debris, the iconic Snell House hotel stood in the background.
Businesses effected by the fire included: Amazeen’s barbershop, R. L Turney hardware store, and Charles Tenney’s dry goods store. The estimated loss was $30,000, partially covered by insurance.
