Image Info

A popular fabric for mourning attire, this dress is made from black silk crepe. The dress includes a fitted bodice lined with beige linen, and pleated skirt lined at bottom with an indigo printed cotton. The same indigo printed fabric is found on the inside of the sleeves. The dress was constructed by hand. The use of black silk crepe likely means the dress was intended for the first and deepest stages of mourning.

The dress is associated with the Bradbury family of Standish.
