The A-line skirt and puffed sleeve are a classic hallmarks of 1890s fashion, and the sleeve style at its fullest in the middle of the decade.

The return of the leg-of-mutton sleeve, also known as a gigot sleeve, was short lived. While straighter skirt trends continued, the size of puffed sleeves decreased as the turn of the 20th century approached.

Jessie Carter Snipe (1871-1952), who largely went by her middle name "Christine" was daughter of master mariner Christopher Carter and his wife Margaret Edgecomb of Bath, although she was born on the "high seas."
