Image Info While originally thought to be Marion Corbett's "going away dress" on her wedding day in 1911, research revealed the dress actually belonged to her mother, Annie Thompson Corbett. Based on style, the dress dates from the 1880s.
Show Details
Annie was married in 1887 but it's unlikely that this is a "going away" or travel dress, due to the degree of embellishment. It's more likely a fancy occasion dress.
The two piece ensemble (bodice and skirt) was made of navy-blue silk satin. It has Intricate blue medallion bead-work embellishes on the cuffs, the front and the back. Along with the beading, attached bows and ruffles make this dress very fancy indeed.
