Image Info Prohibition in the United States was underway during the early 20th century. However, an easy way to obtain liquor was to purchase it from Canada, and that was often overlooked in this time period. The Grand Trunk Railroad operated in Maine and Canada, and one of the few stops it made here was in Bethel.
