Thousands of women from across the country came to the Seventh Annual Convention of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs that was held in Portland, July 12-18, 1925. The convention was hosted by the local Portland Business and Professional Women's Club. Attendees arrived by train at Union Station and spent time in meetings and exploring southern Maine, which included a day of amusement at Old Orchard Beach and a clam bake on Peaks Island.

The National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs was founded on July 15, 1919. The national organization focused on legislation relating to the elimination of sex discrimination in employment, the principle of equal pay, and the need for a comprehensive equal rights amendment.
