Image Info Harley Davidson Motor Company is credited for providing the first motorcycle to the state police in 1908. Maine state troopers often used motorcycles along with horses when the motorcycles were first invented, and at public events some of these motorcycles raced to promote the invention itself. In 1954, motorcycle patrols ended in the Maine State Police.
