Image Info Patrolman Ardon Boland was pictured on the new Harley motorcycle purchased by the city on May 1st, 1933. "He has been instructed to watch particularly for speeders on Forest and Brighton Avenues," as noted in the Portland Evening Express, May 2nd, 1933, page 11. The bike was silver-colored so it was easier to see at night.

In 1934, Boland gave up the Harley when he was promoted to Inspector in the Portland Police Department. The bike appears to be a 1933 twin valve, 750 cc Harley-Davidson, model 33 RE. Harley-Davidson found an important market niche when it began selling motorcycles to US police departments in 1907.
