Image Info During the 1930s, the Portland Press Herald newspaper commissioned a number of aerial photographs throughout Maine. The series also included neighboring Canadian locations, such as this photograph of Campobello Island.
Show Details
While officially part of New Brunswick, Campobello Island is largely associated with the family of United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Roosevelt's parents summered at Campobello, a tradition continued by FDR and his wife Eleanor.
Their homestead on the island was eventually donated by its subsequent owners to both the Canadian and United States governments. It became known as the "Roosevelt Island International Park."
