Image Info Titled by the photographer, Chansonetta Stanley Emmons, as "Old table Chair #4," this image was part of a series of West New Portland residents posed in front of a table-chair that Emmons published in the book, "The Old Table Chair" in 1909.
Show Details
Posed in the ell of the True homestead, Vila True’s sister, Nellie Gray Walker (1889-1982) and cousin Cephus Walker (1891-1959) lounged in the table chair in the chair configuration.
White neckerchiefs on both children catch the raking natural light. Chansonetta or her daughter Dorothy Stanley Emmons may have taken artistic liberties when hand-coloring the glass lantern slide in 1925, as the blue color on Nellie’s dress perfectly matches the pitcher in the background. Similarly, the red in her scarf compliments the red of the apples.
