Chansonetta Stanley Emmons, born in Kingfield in 1858, is known for her photographs of rural Maine and New England life. Hazel True Newman, recalled endless hours posing for photographs, with Chansonetta rearranging the scene, moving her tripod and camera, and taking numerous exposures of the same vista to get the perfect photograph.

Emmons was born to a farm family and raised in Kingfield. She pursued a career in photography in the early 20th century. As an adult she lived in Newton, MA and returned most summers to friends and relatives in Kingfield. She is most recognized for her photographs of the changing rural landscape of New England, however her work includes photographs of Colorado, the Carolinas, Wisconsin, Canada and Europe.
