Image Info Cella's Club Orchestra band members, complete with their instruments, had their portrait taken at the Elite Studio in Biddeford, 1929.
Show Details
The band was comprised of brass, woodwinds, strings and percussion, and presumably was a dance band that played regionally. A gondola boat and Venetian scene painted on the band's drum might be a clue to understanding their origins.
"Cella" was John Joseph Cella Sr., of Sanford, an Italian immigrant, who is seated to the right of the drum in the front row. Cella's band played the local circuit, including the swinging scene at Old Orchard Beach. Thank you to Lee Silva and the Cella family for solving this mystery!
