Image Info A load of pulp wood arrives at the south end of Westport Island from a timber harvesting operation on MacMahan Island. The timber harvesting was over a year-long operation to complete a defensible fire lane that spanned the width of MacMahan Island.

Edwin Cromwell (pictured far right) confers with the Pejepscot Paper Mill forester, Lin Rideout (center), and Herbert Brewer (left) as the pulp is guided up a loader for transport to the paper mill in Topsham. Al Lester is in the water guiding the logs into the loader.
Edwin Cromwell, owner of the Thick and Thin sawmill on Westport, conducted this pulping operation for the Pejepscot Paper Mill.
