York Beach first became known as a tourist destination soon after the Civil War. By the late 19th century York Beach's summer colony consisted mostly of people from Manchester, Somersworth, Concord, and Dover New Hampshire lending to such names as "Dover Bluffs", which is pictured here.

Also pictured are the Fairmont, Wahnita, Young, Lafayette, Algonquin, and Kearsarge Inns.
