Image Info Newport’s Main Street Bridge spanned the East Branch Sebasticook River, part of the Kennebec River watershed. During the 19th century, the area around the bridge was a center of industry, including the state’s largest tannery on Elm Street and businesses such as carriage shops and Arthur G. Hanson’s hardware store.
