Image Info On September 15, 1923 a fire broke out in the broom shop at the Maine State Prison in Thomaston. A thin line of smoke was seen to the west from the business section at the corner of Knox and Main Streets, which alerted the townspeople to the fire. The conflagration quickly spread to the new brick blacksmith shop that had cost $100,000 and to the old west wing, destroying all it its path.
