While documenting the 1922 murder of Otis A. Bean, a letter carrier and fishing guide in Oquossoc, Portland Evening Express photographers also captured images of the surrounding area, likely for future use in the newspaper. This image features the Oquossoc Union Church, a small rectangular structure built entirely of spruce logs. The altar and pulpit consist entirely of round logs, and all interior logs remain unfinished.

The Oquossoc Log Church holds significance as the only structure of its kind constructed entirely of logs, including most of the interior furnishings, such as the altar and pulpit. In 1915, a group of residents began soliciting funds, leading to the building’s completion in 1916 as a non-denominational summer church. Services are still held there every season.
