Image Info In the November 5, 1926, issue of the Portland Press Herald, retired salesman and poultry farmer V.W. Libby appeared holding his prize-winning Silver Laced Wyandottes. The newspaper highlighted Libby’s collaboration with an expert from the Swedish government, who purchased some of his chickens to improve the country's native stock.

Libby, an active member of the Maine State Poultry Association, participated in regional poultry contests and won numerous prize ribbons with his flock. His interest in raising poultry began while working in Western Canada, and he later graduated from the American Poultry College in Kansas City with a 98 percent grade.
