Ashland has long been a logging and milling center. The wilderness areas in the region have also drawn tourists who enjoy hunting and fishing. Hunting lodges in northern Quebec, in the Adirondacks, and remote areas of Maine became popular retreats for wealthy Americans in the late nineteenth century. The exact location of the camp depicted on this postcard is not known.
