Millett vacationed in the Katahdin a number of times with Emmie and Herbert Whitney, who were avid hikers and mountain climbers.

Emmie Whitney was a reporter and editor at the Lewiston Journal and Herb Whitney was a noted amateur photographer. Millett worked for an insurance agency in Gorham.
