Image Info "Pictured is a group of various models of new Knox automobiles in a Portland Company building, which still stands there today. The light-colored touring car with the "09P" 1909 license plate on it probably is the one driven by general manager of the Portland Company, Richard C. Payson. This Massachusetts dealer license plate is from the Knox Automobile Company and was probably driven to Portland from the factory, as were most of the Knox units sold in Maine. It was common practice to drive these open cars in the dead of winter in February, through the cold and snow to Boston for the annual automobile show there and then to the Portland show one week later."--Fletcher, David H. 'The Portland Company 1846-1982.' Charleston, S.C. : Arcadia Pub., 2002. 83.
