Image Info Sarah was the daughter of Francis and Anne Gardiner Richards, members of two of Gardiner’s most prominent families. Fifteen year old Sarah drowned in the Kennebec River on September 4, 1855. Two daguerreotypes of young Sarah were preserved in family collections until donated to Maine Historical Society in 2008, via the Vickery-Shettleworth collection of early Maine photography.
