Image Info Five young women, possibly the Harmon sisters. An exhibit label stored with the image reads "Sisters or schoolmates, these five young ladies posed for George M. Howe sometime in the early 1850s. The girl at the lower right faces the camera unabashedly, while a simple rearrangement of pose could easily have concealed the deformity of her upper lip. Such frankness in dealing with a medium is not always flattering in its unsparing capture of detail suggests considerable strength in character."
