Image Info One typical variation on the portrait miniature in this era was the profile drawn in pencil or rendered in watercolor. Such profiles enjoyed widespread popularity in the decades before the advent of photography, Rufus Porter being one of the best known practitioners of the art form. This circa 1855-60 ambrotype is an example of an earlier pencil profile probably being copied for a family member or friend.
