Image Info A child watched as firefighters, far right and left, battled what appears to be an oil tank car blaze on Kennebec Street, near the intersection with Forest Avenue.
Show Details
The Standard Oil of NY filling station, on 157 Kennebec Street, sat to the left of the blaze, while the smoke concealed a billboard advertising for C.E. Noyes Tires at 195 Forest Avenue. The gas station sold "Tydol" gas from Tidewater Oil Company. Tidewater Oil gas and stations were a well-established brand on the East Coast in the 1920s.
